Over the next few weeks, we will be exploring the topics of conscious consumption: what it means for individuals and society.

Consumer activism is not a new concept: people have long been making purchase decisions based on their ethics or morals. But as more consumers become aware of the power they can demonstrate with their actions, the more organizations stand to benefit from adopting – and promoting – good practices.

There is more than one “conscious consumer”, however. Individuals may prioritize one cause over another. Individuals demonstrate their bias every time they use a public restroom: Do you leave the water running as you grab a paper towel to turn off the water (using extra water AND paper towel), or turn off the faucet with your wet hand and use a hand dryer (using energy, and some would argue being slightly less sanitary)?
